Curriculum and Ethos

Curriculum

In our curriculum we focus on the unique child and enabling environment which is seen in our portrayal of the three I’s.

  • Intent – Focus on the individual child’s unique learning goals.

  • Implement – The experiences we provide children in their environment and ensure their progress.

  • Impact – What the children have learnt from their experiences.

Our aim is to build a nurturing community where children develop confidence and curiosity. We have a strong key person team who build good relationships with the children and parents. They support the child developmentally and extend their play and learning in a comfortable home feel environment. We encourage and teach the children to bring home life into the setting with activities such as baking, role play and decoration in the room.

Mealtimes are an important time for the children to sit down together, socialise and converse. This is a prime time for us to incorporate health and nutrition where we encourage the children to explore and try new things.

We take pride in our extended outdoor areas for the children to explore and learn about the world around them. We have a wonderful garden full of fun resources and we have access to the school field which is great for our welly walks and lot’s of running. The children take particular pride in their allotment where they have been growing fruit and vegetables. This helps them understand about growing their own flowers, fruit and vegetables and how to care and nurture them.

We strive to work in partnership with parents, fostering a strong sense of community. Our open-door approach means families are always welcome, and we regularly invite parents into the nursery to share in that family atmosphere. We also enjoy a close relationship with our neighbouring school, which helps create a smooth transition for children as they move on to the next stage of their learning journey.

Our Ethos

Here at Sandhurst Nursery School CIO our vision is focused and centered around the unique child. We want to provide all children with an opportunity to learn through play in a nurturing and stimulating environment with the support and attention to grow and develop at their own pace. Through play-based, child-centred learning, we support every child’s journey and ensure all children feel safe, valued, confident to explore and transition on to new adventures.

Our unique qualities include:

  • Keeping the individual children as our main focus by ensuring we have a home from home environment with the children's interests and needs at the centre of our approach

  • Our extended outdoor areas offer a wealth of opportunities to explore, create and learn.

  • The small community feel enabling us to create good partnerships with our parents, our neighbouring school and the community around us.
